I agree that reddit has give a lot of guides here. So I think I should just right into the what should you do early on and such.
Okay then, here is the breakdown:
Rank 1 - 30 : This is the phase where you are actually on the peak of your performance, if you have a bad start then you will have problems later on. So try to get as many 5 star cards as you can. There will be 2 weeks of tremendous amount of reward (except the GP, but that is only my opinion). Use every crystals you have to draw, do not even bother to scout/use other things with the crystals. Even though some nice cards will pop out on the scout most of the time you will not have the GP to afford it. Note: Keep the 5 star Littre at all cost. Lock it so you do not accidentally use it.
Note: If on the level 30 your draw or the box gives you 3 5 star cards or more of these cards (other than the Legend from the box), try to reroll/restart your game. (Try to match the element with your legend, but if you do not want to its also not a problem)

On your level 30, you should get your Legend (if you haven't got any yet). And with that this section ends.
* : They are 4 stars that are worth keeping as fillers in building your legend team later on. So keep them until you have better replacement for them. So if I say minimum of 3 do not count these people in.
Rank 31-50: Now after you get your Legend, try to rank up slower than before. Get lots of crystals and draw a lot because draw will not be as effective later as when you are now. On this point you may have the GP to scout only 1 5 star player. Yup just 1 (since I doubt you can get so high in Colosseum and Arena unless you are a p2p player). Then try to refresh scout without using your gold. Only using the balls that recharged every 2 hours. You may encounter a Legend at that time, if you are on this situation then immediately scout it. If you cannot find it, then try to find your most favorite card in the game (right tab, book section) and scout him/her. Make sure that the card you aim at scout has matching element with your legend (if it is not another legend).
